White Rock Salt

Our white salt is an imported European 'rock' salt derived from marine sources through evaporation. Its large crystals ensure it is free flowing through mechanical push spreaders. 

This is a premium quality salt conforming to BS3247 certification.

White salt is cleaner than brown rock salt grit as it does not contain any solid impurities dissolving completely in water and leaving little to no residue.

White rock salt is ideal for de-icing areas where cleanliness is important such as :

• Public walkways, pavements, doorways and entrances.
• Residential areas, footpaths and driveways.
• Public entrances and paths to commercial premises to prevent dirt being brought inside.

The effect of salt on metal, concrete and tarmac

All salts are corrosive to metals and concrete, but white salt is less damaging to surfaces due to the absence of 'marl' which is inherent in brown rock salt grit which has an abrasive effect on tarmac. 

For better protection of concrete, tarmac and/or metals consider using a Calcium Chloride de-icer such as exoTHAW or liquid de-icer such as Isomex3.

As white salt is completely dissolves, it avoids the accumulation of particles in drains and gullies associated with rock salt grit.

How to use Rock Salt for de-icing

White salt can be spread before frost, ice or snow to help prevent slippery surfaces. salt can also be spread after ice and frost have formed to melt and make surfaces safe. Spreading on top of snow will have limited effect on fresh snow. Using rock salt grit on fresh or compacted snow will provide better traction under foot and under wheeled traffic.

Dispersal rate for de-icing salt (Sodium Chloride salt) of between 6-15g per square foot (65-160g per square metre) depending on conditions.

	As this salt is not in sealed bags, we recommend using a commercial grade spreader eg SaltWhizzard or SaltMaster SM200 which will deal better with salt which will readily absorb moisture.
	Salt, by its very nature, will absorb moisture.  The moisture content of this form of containment cannot be guaranteed. Please ensure it is stored inside and protected from the elements.
